In 1988-90, Ken Hogan served as the Region 3 representative on the board of directors of the National Animal Control Association (NACA).
In 1991, Ken Hogan was named by NACA as the Animal Control Officer of the Year.
In 1994, Ken Hogan retired from animal control.

In 1998, Don Rose is still in Chesterfield County and still in charge of its’ animal control program; Gary Sprifke is still running Prince William County’s animal control efforts; Linda Leffel is Director of Program Development, Division of Continuing Education at Virginia Tech; and Dr. Gordon Maclnnis is enjoying his retirement in Blacksburg.

This history of animal control in Virginia is dedicated to the many overworked and underpaid animal control officers whose caring, commitment and hard work have made a difference in the lives of others.
