William R. Tydings

I started my career in public safety at the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office in 1987 as a communications officer.  I transferred to Animal Control in1989 as an ACO.  I retuned to the Sheriff's Department in 1990 and served as a deputy sheriff.  As a deputy sheriff, I was involved in the ERT team, Bike Patrol, Dare, the Special Olympics Torch Run, and assisted in creating the Cadet program.  I received an associate's degree in police science in 1995.

I was hired as Director of Animal Control for Spotsylvania County in1995.  I have been a member of VACA since 1996 and a board member since 1999.  I am proud that VACA has had a strong voice in Richmond and I intend on continuing to do what I can to ensure that our profession gets the laws and training that's it needs to do our job.
